How can I use my iotty Smart Switch to control my garage door?Updated a year ago

The iotty switch is compatible with garage door openers that support a normally open circuit with a push-button closed signal. These garage door openers typically have exposed terminals on the opener and you can check to confirm it is compatible by using a piece of scrap wire and touching it between the two terminals designated in your handbook (usually COMM and NO). If this operates your garage door then you can use the iotty switch to send that signal.

Once you confirm it is compatible, you need to install the iotty switch in a properly sized electrical box that supplies 120V (normal power). This is required to power the switch itself. Then you would follow the instructions in the manual for wiring a pulse connection. Typically this involves running a bell wire from the garage door opener into the electrical box and then connecting one wire to L1 and the other to R1 (and connect the bell wire to the two required terminals on the garage door opener). Make sure not to connect either of these wires to the 120V wire in the box or you may damage your garage door opener.

Once set, up you can then use the app to have the iotty switch send a push button pulse signal to the garage door opener to open/close. Please note, that because there is no positional feedback to the iotty switch, you will just be sending a command to change the state of the garage door. This means if the garage door is open and you use the push-button command, it will close and vice versa. With this in mind, you will want to make sure you can see your garage door before sending the command.
